Yes! We Really Do Want Jeremy Corbyn Supporting Medicinal Cannabis.

CLEAR member Andrew Cox writes in response to 'Oh No! Do We Really Want Jeremy Corbyn Supporting Medicinal Cannabis?' Jeremy Corbyn has been an MP for 33 years, first elected in 1983. He is currently the leader of the opposition, and by all accounts will be for the foreseeable future, until either another attempted coup, election failure or"¦wait for it"¦he becomes Prime Minister. Do not be ridiculous I hear some mutter, but have...

Home Secretary Invites CLEAR To ‘Enter A Dialogue’ On Cannabis Law Reform.

In a letter dated 15th August 2016, Amber Rudd, the new Home Secretary, has invited CLEAR to raise "any queries and concerns" about present UK policy on cannabis. This is the first time since 2006, with Charles Clarke, that the UK cannabis campaign has had any direct contact with a serving Home Secretary.  It reflects the reality, now recognised in government, that changes in cannabis policy are imminent. In...

Oh No! Do We Really Want Jeremy Corbyn Supporting Medicinal Cannabis?

It's a bit like when Russell Brand came out in favour. He's right, just as Corbyn is but it doesn't do us any good.  It just gives our opponents ammunition to portray the campaign as the preserve of losers and eccentrics. I quite like Jeremy Corbyn, even if many of his policies are, in my opinion, bonkers.  I certainly think he's a very healthy influence on British politics but his support is not going to help us gain legal access to medicinal cannabis.  If anything...

Professor Mike Barnes Appointed To CLEAR Advisory Board.

CLEAR Cannabis Law Reform, the UK's largest and longest established cannabis policy group, has appointed Professor Mike Barnes as its scientific and medical advisor. The appointment reflects the growing worldwide acceptance of cannabis as medicine. Professor Barnes and CLEAR are working with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Drug Policy Reform (APPG) which will itself release a report on medicinal cannabis in September.  Alongside the APPG report, Professor Barnes will publish a comprehensive review of...

May Brings A Fresh Start To The Cannabis Campaign.

Would that we were in spring looking forward to a splendid summer. Instead, in mid-July we are heading into autumn towards what looks like a stern, drab and ominous future.   Theresa May is prime minister, perhaps the worst nightmare for those who seek cannabis law reform. You have to admire her first few days though. What you see is what you get. She is smart, calculated and very, very certain about the nature of the government she will lead.  I have no doubt she...

Nanny State? Tabloid Lies? Now, So-Called Reformers Are Doing It For Themselves.

Skunk scaremongering is blossoming again. This time though it's not dire warnings from the Home Office or the Institute of Psychiatry drumming up some new research funding. It's not even the Daily Mail or, more likely these days, the Daily Telegraph, misreporting some obscure study and turning every 'might' and 'may' and 'could' into terrible, scary certainty. No, this time it's the newbie intake of...

Seismic Shift In UK Politics Re-Opens Door To Cannabis Law Reform.

Whichever way you voted in the EU referendum, it has at least opened up all possibilities for cannabis law reform. The dissolution of the coalition government and the unexpected Tory majority last year had really put the block on progress. The Liberal Democrats failed to take the opportunities they had while in government.  So sad that only now they are discredited and decimated in Parliament have they really got their cannabis policy...

This Is The Future Of Cannabis. For Medicine, Nutrition And Pleasure.

One of these vape pens contains Blue Dream sativa cannabis oil, 91% THC, the other is Hindu Kush indica cannabis oil, 85% THC and the spare cartridge has the dregs of some New York City Diesel sativa, 85% THC.  You can't tell which is which to look at them but each has a distinctive flavour and effect.  They're not completely odour free but almost. This is the future of cannabis as a consumer product.  It is cleaner, neater, handier, healthier and better for you than...

The Sickening Cruelty Of UK Drugs Policy.

Hats off to Coronation Street for the fantastic job they are doing on the Izzy and medicinal cannabis story. This storyline is beautifully paced, very powerful, deeply emotional and is doing wonders for the cause of those who need cannabis as medicine. After so many years of disappointment at the way the media have treated this issue, the producers and scriptwriters at Corrie are excelling themselves.  They have shown how cannabis has very real therapeutic benefits, how the law humiliates...

A Real Cannabis Crime.

Out walking my dogs this week I had spotted a black plastic bag dumped by the side of the road  that runs along the crest above my house.  My suspicions were confirmed today when I took a closer look.  It contained two or three rootballs and over the fence, what I hadn't noticed before, were another six or seven bags.  It was the remnants of someone's cannabis grow and it had been left in a remote spot, four or five miles from the closest village, 10 miles from the...
