9th June, Parliament Square. Will You Be There?

On 9th June 2011, Charles Walker, the Tory MP for Broxbourne has an adjournment debate in the House of Commons on "Cannabis and psychosis in young people". See here for details. Adjournment debates on Thursdays are chosen by the Speaker. They last for half and hour and the MP who tabled the debate gets to open it and a minister replies. I don't know whether this will be a Home Office or Health minister ...

“MS Patients Denied Licensed Cannabis Drug By NHS”, The Guardian, 30th May 2011

This excellent article by the Guardian's Denis Campbell can be seen here. I have today sent the following letter for publication. Sir, The whole Sativex story is a scam predicated on a confidence trick which relies on the stupid and self-defeating policy of prohibition. Both the US and UK governments deny the medicinal benefits of cannabis, despite the huge wealth of peer reviewed scientific research to the contrary. The US government's hypocrisy is best demonstrated by...

Cannabis Is A Wonderful Thing

First published October 2010.Two days ago, I found this marvellous image of Hunter S. Thompson which reminded me of something I've been meaning to write about for ages. Cannabis is a wonderful thing. We spend so much time having to engage in intellectual, scientific, medical, moral and human rights arguments that we forget to tell the truth. We forget to say what's good. We forget to advance the wonderful, beneficial, delightful, life-enhancing qualities of this amazing plant. Cannabis is good. It...

Cannabis Con Becomes Cannabis Lies

While PM David 'I demand a private life' Cameron and his deputy Nick 'I-dont-care-as-long-as-I keep-my-job' Clegg ramp up their action against otherwise law abiding UK citizens whose only crime is to grow their own cannabis, new evidence from the United States suggests the reason prohibition is so harshly enforced in the UK is to make way for the pharmaceutical industry. And on the...

New Amsterdam. A Way Forward?

As someone who first visted Amsterdam in 1973 and is a veteran of the Vondel Park all-summer festivals, I say perhaps there could be a positive out of the clampdown on coffee shops. It's always seemed absurd to me and a recipe for trouble that while possession and sale in coffee shops is permitted, the supply chain remains illegal. It negates one of the greatest benefits of an end to prohibition - taking the market away from criminals....

Mother And Daughter Sent To Prison For Five Plants

This story made me weep. For five plants and 11 cuttings, Jeanette Turner, aged 48, of Highley Close, and Nina Rogers, 30, of Kingham Close, both in Redditch, were jailed for 20 months after pleading guilty to drug production. The full story is here. Judge Christopher Plunkett is a vile monster and a sub human brute. he can come and take me away and lock me up if he wants to because I do...

100 X Safer than Alcohol? Cannabis Is 1000s X Safer!

Today the NHS released new statistics on the enormous damage that Britain's favourite drug causes. Admissions to hospital for alcohol abuse reached 1,057,000 in 2009-10. See the BBC story: "Alcohol-related hospital admissions reach record level" Similar figures for hospital admissions in 2009 are: Peanuts - 3000 Cannabis - 750 Now there are "lies, damned lies and statistics" so take them as a pinch of salt. Is this really news? When I researched the same...
