UPDATE On PCC Complaint. The Daily Mail, 7th October 2011

The original complaint can be seen here. The Daily Mail has now corrected its article and added the following note:"A previous version of this article said that smoking cannabis has been found to be a major cause of psychotic illnesses in those who are genetically vulnerable. In fact, scientific evidence shows that smoking cannabis could increase the risk of psychotic illnesses in those who are genetically vulnerable. We are happy to clarify this point".The...

The cause of Reefer Madness V2? (and no, it’s not skunk)

A quick update on the previous blog "Complaint to the PCC re The Daily Mail October 30th - Update of sorts": The Press Complaints Commission has now started investigating my complaint regarding the outrageous reporting of a study from Bristol university that the, paper claimed, proved cannabis caused psychosis. The study proved no such thing of course and didn't even use cannabis, or people. So with luck the Daily Mail will soon be hauled over the coals. Well, we can...

PCC Confirms That Amanda Platell Is A Liar

In an article back in July, Amanda Platell of the Daily Mail danced on Amy Winehouse's grave with a vile outburst of abuse and lies. Platell indulged herself in the blatant falsification of scientific evidence in order to abuse Amy's memory and continue the Mail's mendacious campaign against cannabis and its hate crime against cannabis users. The Press Complaints Commission has accepted that Platell falsified a study published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology. She...

Reefer Madness In A Final Frenzy

The Unexpurgated Version! In the mid 1930s, after the end of alcohol prohibition, Harry Anslinger, former assistant commissioner at the Bureau of Prohibition was settling into his exciting new job as head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and working on his next campaign. "This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with negroes, entertainers and any others." he wrote in one of Randolph Hearst's newspapers. Hearst was behind the organised campaign against cannabis hemp, then one of...

The Daily Mail And The Press Complaints Commission Sink Deeper Into The Gutter

The testimony so far to the Leveson Inquiry reveals just how immoral, disgusting, dishonest and vile are so many of those involved with the gutter press. Murdoch got the News of the World off the hook by the simple expedient of corporate suicide. The Daily Mail is now squarely in the dock alongside its co-conspirator the PCC. These two institutions are directly responsible for falsehood, misinformation, the persecution of individuals and the systematic deception of millions...

PCC complaint about the Daily Mail – an update of sorts

Almost three weeks ago now I submitted a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) concerning the work of pure fiction published by the Daily Mail which claimed a study undertaken by Bristol University found the strongest evidence to date that cannabis "brings on" schizophrenia. In fact the study showed no such thing and didn't even use cannabis. The original blog, published over on UKCIA and link to the story is here. As a result I made a complaint to...

Dr Robert Lefever, The General Medical Council, The Daily Mail And The Press Complaints Commission

Dr Robert Lefever is a Daily Mail columnist. In October he wrote an absurd and spectacularly ignorant article about cannabis titled "Even the Dutch think skunk drives you mad". I submitted a PCC complaint which you can see here. Essentially, Dr Lefever claimed that cannabis available today has been "genetically modified" and that it contains "25 times as much THC as there used to be". This from a man who trades on...

PCC Complaint – Daily Mail 30th October 2011

Sent to the PCC Sir Daily Mail 26th October 2011 "Just ONE cannabis joint 'can bring on schizophrenia' as well as damaging memory" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2053486/One-cannabis-joint-bring-schizophrenia.html I wish to complain about the above article, I do so in a private capacity and also as the editor of the website www.ukcia.org , a cannabis law reform site. The article would seem to clearly violate the PCC code in that: * It amounts to deliberate falsification of evidence...
