15 Aug Letter To Your MP In Support Of The Drugs Minister’s Proposal

Norman Baker MP

Norman Baker MP

CLEAR would like to ask you to write to your MP in support of the proposal by Drugs Minister Norman Baker to legalise medicinal cannabis. We can’t emphasise enough how important this development is and it’s vital that we support it as strongly as possible.

Use one of the following template letters or write your own, but remember to keep it short and very much focused on the single, narrow issue of allowing medicinal cannabis under the direction of a doctor. This may seem like a very narrow request falling well short of what you would like to see, but it would represent a huge shift in government policy, a shift the Tories have already ruled out and Labour is unlikely to want to support. More to the point it would mean a lot to some very ill people.

Please also tailor your letter to your MP, so go to Write to them to find out who your MP is and what party he or she is in, you can send an e-mail from the site.

Do remember to include your name, address and phone number, if you don’t do that your MP will ignore your letter.

Dear [name of MP]

I am writing to you to ask that you support the position taken by the Drugs Minister Norman Baker regarding the legalisation of medicinal cannabis.

It remains, despite a huge and growing body of evidence to the contrary, the position of the UK government that there is no medicinal value in cannabis. This position is simply unsustainable.

Please note that this issue is totally separate from the arguments concerning recreational use. The proposal from Mr Baker is that herbal cannabis from pharmaceutical grade suppliers be made available via doctor’s prescription.

Such pharmaceutical grade herbal cannabis is available now under the trade name of “Bedrocan” and is supplied through dispensing chemists in Holland.

There are many thousands of ill people who obtain very real relief from using cannabis; I hope you can bring pressure to bear on the current government to change its ignorant and cruel position on this issue.

Yours Sincerely

Indeed I desperately hope to see a far more intelligent approach to drug law reform generally from the Labour government, the hard line prohibitionist nonsense I have heard so far on the issue from your party and Mr Milliband puts me off voting for you.

Yours Sincerely
