Asking Politicians to Order Doctors to Prescribe Cannabis is a Futile Quest

Last year, when Sajid Javid introduced the new regulations permitting prescribing of cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) he went much further than anyone could have expected. For 50 years doctors had been told that cannabis was a highly toxic, dangerous drug with no therapeutic value. Then, in the space of few weeks they were suddenly told by the Chief Medical Officer that there was "conclusive evidence" of therapeutic benefit. The truth is successive governments and the Home Office had been...

Lazy, Self-Serving, Incompetent MPs Decide To Blame Drug Consumers For The Consequences Of Their Failed Policies.

This is the latest propaganda and falsehood in the war on drugs. According to Sajid Javid, the new home secretary, David Gauke MP who is the justice secretary, James Cleverly MP, Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and even the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, it's our fault, people who consume drugs, that their failed policies have created a gigantic criminal market which uses violence in its turf wars...

Let’s Nail the Home Office’s Latest Smokescreen About Medical Cannabis

As the evidence and support for legal access to cannabis for medical use grows, so the Home Office adjusts and reframes its arguments in denial. This should come as no surprise. The 'hostile environment' revealed by the Windrush scandal runs through the Home Office like a stick of rock. The culture of this department is defined by Theresa May and it reflects her character and personality. It is secretive, demands total control and micro management of everything it touches and whenever...

This is Paul Kenward, husband of Victoria Atkins MP who is the UK drugs minister. He grows cannabis for a living.

Mr Kenward is managing director of British Sugar which grows cannabis under contract to GW Pharmaceuticals at its 45 acre greenhouse in Wissington, Norfolk.  As confirmed by British Sugar, the cannabis is for production of Epidiolex, GW's epilepsy medicine which is understood to be 98% cannabidiol (CBD). Epidiolex is not yet licensed as a medicine although it is currently with the FDA for US approval and the European Medicines Agency for approval within the EU...

Victoria Atkins MP, The UK Drugs Minister, Opposes Drugs Regulation While Her Husband Grows 45 Acres of Cannabis Under Government Licence.

There are many examples of wilful ignorance, blind prejudice and bare faced dishonesty on drugs policy from many former and current MPs.  There is no one though who plumbs the depths of deception and hypocrisy as the new drugs minister Victoria Atkins. Her recent performance in the Westminster Hall debate on drug consumption rooms (DCR) was riddled with inaccuracies, distorted information and downright...

‘Gone To Pot’ Shows How Close We Are To Legalisation. Now We Just Need To Deal With The Scaremongering.

It seems we really are on a roll now.  The cannabis campaign has gained momentum over the last five or six six years more than ever before.  It's snowballing, the rate of progress is accelerating. What's made this happen? It's recognition of the benefits that cannabis offers.  It certainly isn't because of some crazy idea that if we exaggerate and overstate its harms, suddenly the government will recognises that legal regulation makes it safer.  No, that flawed idea has nothing to...

How To Campaign For Cannabis Law Reform Under A Theresa May Government.

+ Lobbying Parliament   + If the Government Won't Regulate Cannabis Then We'll Do It For Them   + The CBD Market   + Medical Cannabis   + Educating And Influencing Researchers   For cannabis and drugs policy reform, out of 650 MPs, there could not have been a worse person to seize power than Theresa May.  There are a few who come close on both Tory and Labour benches but no one who has such a long record of bigotry, denial of evidence and refusal even to consider the subject. The UK Government’s Very Last Excuse For Denying Access To Medicinal Cannabis.

Essentially, UK government policy on cannabis hasn't altered since 1971.  Despite the vast amount of new evidence published since then and revolutionary change, particularly on medicinal use, all across the world, successive governments have stubbornly and obstinately refused to consider any sort of reform. It doesn't matter which party has been in power, Conservative, Labour or the coalition, it's a subject that ministers and MPs simply refuse to engage with.  It's easier that way for them and be in no doubt: laziness,...

Facebook Says Calling A Black Man A Baboon “Doesn’t Violate Our Community Standards”.

On the other hand Facebook says that recommending a responsible, reputable supplier of verified, lab-tested, legal CBD food supplements does violate its standards. At a guess (because you can't get a straight answer from Facebook about anything), the issue is "We prohibit any attempts by unauthorised dealers to purchase, sell or trade prescription drugs, marijuana, firearms or ammunition." Now CBD food supplements are fully legal products.  They are not prescription drugs.  True, CBD is present in cannabis but it...

Home Secretary Invites CLEAR To ‘Enter A Dialogue’ On Cannabis Law Reform.

In a letter dated 15th August 2016, Amber Rudd, the new Home Secretary, has invited CLEAR to raise "any queries and concerns" about present UK policy on cannabis. This is the first time since 2006, with Charles Clarke, that the UK cannabis campaign has had any direct contact with a serving Home Secretary.  It reflects the reality, now recognised in government, that changes in cannabis policy are imminent. In...
